Interview with the Mr. Roosevelt

Date: 2020.02.10
Q:It is the travelling exhibition, and you have seen them twice. The first time was in the opening ceremony in Asian Culture Center, and this time we have more works here. What do you think about the whole exhibition and artworks?

Mr. Roosevelt: I love it being set up here with so many people can see it. It looks beautiful. In this open space, his works look terrific in a big, open modern space like this. The contrast between the modern building and his art is really interesting.

Q:This is the landmark New York public space. Usually we have the exhibition in gallery spaces, but this time is in an open space. What do you think of it?

Mr. Roosevelt: I think it is wonderful. I think this time should have large number of audiences, much bigger than art spaces. Because this is really for real people of New York. You can see his art is all real people from China. It is all about people. So, the more people can see it, the better.

Q:You really see it can help to raise the awareness of Chinse culture in New York?

Mr. Roosevelt: Yes, absolutely.  You can tell a lot of people like it. They are curious about it and they are learning a lot about Chinse culture and art. Some people may be the first time to think about it in New York. It is unusual to see art in a public place like this.

Q:From your perspective as a westerner, how do you understand his work?

Mr. Roosevelt: Well, it teaches me something about Chinese culture, I can sort of identify what is people. I think people is so expressive whether you are from New York, Peru or anywhere, you can understand what the artist created, the people in his art are laugh they work, they do things people everywhere do. He makes them just so unique and expressive.
